Over the summer, she took a nearly two-month-long hiatus from public life before appearing at an AI event in September. She went on to host a number of events for the holidays as well.
But we have seen more of the first lady in 2026. She promoted her documentary “Melania” heavily when it came out in January. She recently made history as the first first lady to sit in for the Security Council presidency at the UN. She convened an international summit for her Fostering the Future initiative, where she debuted a humanoid robot that she says could help teach students.
She especially shocked the world when she called a press conference to make an announcement denying she had a friendship with Epstein and calling on Congress to have a public hearing for survivors.
Melania Trump also met with lawmakers recently to discuss legislation to improve the foster system, as highlighted in the April 23 First Lady’s Luncheon.
When did Melania meet Donald Trump?
The first lady posted an excerpt from her memoir “Melania” on social media that tells the story of how she met her husband.
She said she met Donald Trump at the Kit Kat Klub on a Saturday night in September 1998 while at a party with her friend.
“’Hi, I’m Donald Trump,’ the man said when he reached my table. ‘Nice to meet you.’ I recognized the name, and I knew he was a businessman or celebrity, but not much else. He put his hand out to shake mine,” she wrote in her book. “His eyes filled with curiosity and interest, and, seizing the opportunity, he took the seat next to mine and started a conversation.”
She also wrote that he was accompanied by a beautiful date, so she didn’t think much of it at the time, but she was “drawn to his magnetic energy.”
They were married in 2005 and had one child together, Barron Trump, the following year.
