Former first lady Jill Biden is ready to open up about her time in the White House.

The college professor announced Tuesday, March 11, that she penned a memoir about her and former President Joe Biden’s time at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. The book is slated for release on June 2.

“I entered the role of first lady in a unique time in our nation’s history, in the midst of a pandemic and the shadow of an insurrection. Those days tested all of us – our resilience, our compassion and our belief in one another,” Jill Biden said in an announcement video.

She said that “serving in the historic East Wing was the honor of my life,” noting that “parts of this story have been told, but not all of it.” Biden indicated the book would touch on Joe Biden‘s abrupt departure from the 2024 presidential race, after which Vice President Kamala Harris stepped in to run against Donald Trump, whom her husband had defeated in 2020.

Jill Biden told potential readers the memoir would reveal “what that moment meant for our family and for me personally.”

She ended her video by saying, “Let’s set the record straight.” The book will be released by Gallery Books Group, an imprint of the powerhouse book publisher Simon & Schuster.

First ladies typically release White House memoirs first

Jill Biden’s choice to release a White House memoir falls in line with tradition. First ladies have typically released their personal accounts of the presidency before their spouses.

“Spoken from the Heart” by Laura Bush was published in May 2010, six months before former President George W. Bush’s book “Decision Points” the following November.

Michelle Obama’s popular “Becoming,” among the best-selling memoirs in U.S. history, was published in November 2018, two years before Barack Obama’s presidential memoir, “A Promised Land,” landed in November 2020.

First lady Melania Trump‘s self-titled coffee table book came out in 2024, but President Donald Trump has yet to release a book about his first term.
